Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Correctional Services Yusril Ihza Mahendra stated that the recommendations brought by the Polri Reform Acceleration Commission to President Prabowo Subianto have the potential to change the currently applicable Polri Law.

According to Yusril, the proposals prepared by the team are substantial and touch on fundamental aspects of the police institution.

Observations by CNNIndonesia.com noted that Yusril arrived at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Tuesday (5/5) around 14:39 WIB to attend the agenda of handing over the final report of the Polri Reform Acceleration Commission to the Head of State.

“Yes, that’s right. And the proposals submitted to Mr President are quite substantial. And if approved, there will be implications for changes to the existing Polri law,” Yusril said upon arriving at the Palace.

Yusril explained that he, along with other commission members, was invited by the President to present the final report on the reform team’s work, which he said had been completed about two months ago.

The report was then compiled in several versions, from very thick documents to short summaries to make it easy for the President to understand.

“Invited by Mr President to present the final report from the work of the Polri Reform Acceleration Committee, which has been working for several months and completed its tasks about two months ago,” Yusril said.

He mentioned that the team prepared a 3,000-page report, a 300-page version, and a three-page summary containing the main recommendation points. All versions were made so that Prabowo could read the reform proposals comprehensively or briefly.

“There is a 3,000-page report, a 300-page one, and one that is only three pages. So it can be read by Mr President briefly so that it can be well understood by him,” he said.

Although acknowledging that the submitted recommendations carry major consequences, Yusril was not yet willing to reveal the details of the proposal’s substance.

He emphasised that all committee members had agreed not to disclose the report’s contents to the public before the document is officially handed over directly to the President’s hands.

“We will explain later after all reports are submitted to Mr President,” he said.

Yusril also emphasised that a detailed explanation regarding the priorities of the recommendations will be provided by the Chairman of the Polri Reform Acceleration Commission, Jimly Asshiddiqie, after the meeting with the President is completed.

“Because I am just a member, so don’t preempt the Chairman,” he said.
