Youths stage rally for peace

JAKARTA (JP): At least 75 members of the Indonesian Mosque Youth Forum (FPMI) staged a rally on Monday at the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle in Central Jakarta, calling for peace, unity and integrity for the nation.

Members of the forum distributed leaflets and roses to passing motorists during the one-hour rally.

"We purposely conducted this rally on Prophet Muhammad's birthday in a bid to appeal to the public to not be easily provoked into doing things which could spark conflict," FPMI chairman Indra Harsono said.

He said there had been too many conflicts which had engulfed the nation and disrupted the unity and integrity of the country.

Therefore, he said, FPMI also reminded political leaders to concentrate on efforts to unify the nation and make people prosperous.

The rally ended peacefully without causing any traffic problems.(01)
