Youths jailed for killing ojek driver

BOGOR (JP): The Bogor District Court has sentenced two teenagers to six years in jail for killing an ojek (motorcycle taxi) driver.

Presiding judge Martini said on Wednesday the defendants, identified as Ahmad and Usep, were found guilty of killing Usman in Cibalung village, Cijeruk district in Bogor on Jan. 6 this year.

"The two defendants planned the killing the day before Usman was murdered because they wanted to steal his motorcycle," Martini said.

She said that at first Ahmad did not want to kill Usman because he was related to the victim.

But Ahmad agreed to the plan after Usep told him that he would be responsible for the killing, she said.

The two defendants stopped Usman and asked him to drive them around the village, she said.

Usman was attacked by the two defendants when they passed through a deserted area. He died of stab wounds inflicted by a machete and a sword, she said.

The defendants fled when disturbed by a passerby, leaving the victim and his motorcycle on the street, she added.

Martini said the defendants violated Article 340 of the Criminal Code on premeditated murder.

Prosecutor Bagindo L. Gaol had earlier asked the court to sentence the defendants each to seven years in jail.

Meanwhile, an unemployed man was killed by a mob for attempting to steal a motorcycle from an ojek driver in Mengger village, Bogor on Wednesday.

Oji, 38, was mobbed by local residents before he could escape after grabbing Hamid's motorcycle.

Oji, a resident of the Jonggol area, died of severe bodily wounds, a resident said. (24/jun)
