Youths demand better education

JAKARTA: As part of the International Youth Day commemoration, youths from all of the nation's provinces gathered here on Sunday, issuing an eight-point statement.

They called for more action by people in society to prevent the abuse of drugs and the spread of HIV/AIDS.

They also demanded that the government pay more attention to the nation's young generation, in part by improving their welfare in the form of better access to education, health and information.

The gathering, held at the office of the State Minister of Youth and Sports Affairs, featured 52 youth leaders from the 33 provinces of the country.

They have scheduled to hold separate hearings with members of the House of Representatives and several Cabinet ministers on Monday to gain support for their declaration. --JP
