Youth group protests Golkar nomination list

JAKARTA (JP): The Jakarta chapter of the Angkatan Muda Pembaharuan Indonesia (AMPI) has protested the list of Golkar candidates nominated to be Jakarta provincial councilors.

Syamsul Marsuf and Oberlin Sidabutar, chairman and the secretary of the Jakarta chapter of AMPI, were among the six signatories of a press release distributed to The Jakarta Post yesterday protesting the order in which the candidates were listed.

They said their candidates were number 73, 74 and 107 on the list, and were therefore unlikely to get a seat in the City Council, because there were only 75 seats.

AMPI is a youth organization affiliated to Golkar.

The letter suggested the Golkar Jakarta chapter review the nomination list and put M. Taufik and Oberlin Sidabutar in the "good numbers."

The signatories said the organization was very dissatisfied with the current list. (sur)
