Young woman hangs herself

JAKARTA (JP): An unidentified young woman was found dead, hanging from a neighborhood security post on Jl. Alayidrus, North Petojo subdistrict of Central Jakarta early on Monday.

Gambir police chief of detectives Second Insp. Bayu Dewantoro, who took the body to Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital morgue, said the victim was about 25-years old, with straight short hair and tanned skin.

He said the corpse was first found by Sarmin, 60, a local civil security guard (hansip) and a resident of Jl. Pembangunan V in Petojo, who had just returned to the security post at 3 a.m. after patrolling the neighborhood.

Gambir police officers, who arrived at the post after receiving Sarmin's report, found the woman hanging from a blue rope attached to the ceiling of the security post.

Bayu said the police did not find any suspicious marks on the woman's body, but only a green circular mark around her neck that led police to conclude that it was a suicide.

He said police have assumed the woman was not a local resident since none of the locals recognized her, adding that police would try to identify the woman and locate her family, pending an autopsy on Wednesday. (01)
