Young golfers face tough task

JAKARTA (JP): The country's rising young golfers are facing a tough challenge this week in the Kedaton Young Champions tournament as they have to play their 72 holes in three days instead of the usual four.

On the first two days they will play 27-hole rounds at the 6.950- yard Kedaton layout, 40 kms west of Jakarta, and on the third day they will play the final round over 18 holes.

"During the Greg Norman Junior Masters such a system of play was used," Charlie Pelupessy of the Association of Indonesian Young Champions said yesterday.

He said the organizers were forced to use such a format "because the management of the Kedaton golf course has only provided a three-day event instead of the usual four."

Twenty-eight golfers, including Indonesia's leading amateur Jemin Saputra who played in the SEA Games, will be in the fray for the top honors. (rsl)
