Young adults song contests to be held
JAKARTA (JP): The 1996 Young Adults Songwriting and Singing Contest was announced by a foundation here Wednesday.
The newly established Foundation for Music and Art announced at the Jamz pub that the contests are open to any Indonesian citizen between 13 and 25 years old.
The foundation was established last year in order to promote art and music among young adults.
"We find that there is a lack of concern among the public in this respect," Firmansyah Bachtiar, chairman of the foundation, told reporters.
Those wishing to participate in the songwriting contest should submit a copy of their ID card, a color photograph and their demo cassette to the committee. A Rp 5,000 (US$2.1) administration fee is also required.
Participants of singing contest should send a copy of their ID card, a color photograph, their demo cassette and a Rp 10,000 (US$4.2) administration fee.
The committee's address is Jl. Senayan No. 4, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta. In addition, the above materials can also be sent to Jl. Cipaku II No. 15, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta.
Registration ends on June 15. The winners will be announced in the middle of July and the winning songs and singers will be presented in a program broadcast by the SCTV TV channel.
The finalists will compete for trophies and up to Rp 10 million ($4,301) in prize money.
Aside from the songwriting and singing contests, the foundation has also planned several other activities for this year, including seminars and painting exhibitions.
The foundation staffers include musicians, music critics and show organizers. The staffers include Imran Amir, Irianti Erningpraja, Purwacaraka, Bens Leo, Eddy Susilo. The foundation's adviser is State Minister/Secretary Moerdiono. (jsk)
