Yogyakarta to host world walk event
JAKARTA: The sultanate town of Yogyakarta, about 500 kilometers southeast of here, will host an International Fun Walk for a third consecutive time since 2000, the organizing committee said here on Tuesday.
The event, which will run for two days from Sept. 7 to Sept. 8, is expected to feature 200 participants from 21 countries associated with the International Marching League (IML).
"There are 50 walkers who registered for the event. They are from the Netherlands, Germany, Japan, Australia and Finland," Arstuti Mularum, a committee executive, said.
The IFW will cover a distance of 20 kilometers, starting at 6.30 a.m. Besides Yogyakarta, the West Java capital of Bandung has also hosted the event in 1995, 1996 and 1997.
