Yogyakarta to host volleyball meet

SEMARANG (JP): Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia will take part in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Students Volleyball Tournament to be held in Yogyakarta over Aug. 21-25.

The Philippines and Vietnam are absent from the tournament. There were no details over their no-show.

Event organizers said that each team comprised 30 members: 12 boys, 12 girls and 6 non-playing officials.

Under the auspices of the ASEAN Schools Sports Council (ASCC), this 2001 three-yearly tournament will be the seventh since 1985.

Indonesia's boys team has been an all-time winner, with its female compatriots traditionally coming second behind either Thailand or Malaysia.

Agus Junaedi and M. Budirella are the Indonesian coaches in the boys and girls teams respectively. (har/01)
