Yogyakarta to host science Olympiad

YOGYAKARTA: Some 78 countries have been invited to take part in the International Junior Science Olympiad from Dec. 4 to Dec. 13 in Yogyakarta.

Indra Jati Sidi, the director general of elementary and middle education at the education ministry, said at least 30 counties had confirmed their participation in the event.

Indra met with Yogyakarta Governor Hamengkubuwono X on Tuesday to discuss preparations for the Olympiad.

"The sultan has voiced his support for the event and welcomes the selection of Yogyakarta as the host city," Indra said on Tuesday.

This will be the second international science Olympiad to take place in Indonesia. Jakarta hosted the event last year. --JP
