Yogyakarta hosts off-road race
YOGYAKARTA: Yogyakarta is hosting a three-day off-road race called the Road Diplomat Challenge of Indonesia (RDCI), with Surabaya-based cigarette producer PT Gelora Djaja as the sole sponsor.
Held in the Alas Bunder region of Gunungkidul, Yogyakarta, the race is the first of three series of races to be held in three cities. The next series will be held in Makasar on July 1 to July 3, while the last is in Malang, East Java, on Aug. 26 to Aug. 28.
According to the race's technical executive director Syamsir Alam, an international standard of racing that included punctuality and environmental friendliness would be applied in the race to maintain the quality of the event.
"Racers, for example, are not allowed to throw out garbage as they please. They have to supply their own garbage bin for the race. Violators will be given tough penalties," PT Gelora Djaja's Public Relations Manager Stefanus Handoyo Kusumo added.
Among participating racers are Gunawan Wibisono of Yogyakarta, Hadi W and Harjanto of Central Java. -- JP
