Yogyakarta cultural show in Jakarta
JAKARTA (JP): Yogyakarta Governor Sultan Hamengkubuwono X, who is also the ruler of the sultanate, is slated to open a two-day arts and cultural show to commemorate the 253rd anniversary of Yogyakarta.
Officially named the Yogyakarta Arts and Culture Fair, the show opens on Saturday and will be held at the YTKI building on Jl. Gatot Subroto, South Jakarta.
Harnardono, spokesman for the organizing committee, said on Monday that the opening of the fair would be followed by a Garebeg ritual procession at 10:00 a.m.
The sultan's wife, Hemas, was then scheduled to open a handicrafts exhibition before the launching of a new book titled Yogyakarta 2000 on the first day, said Harnardono.
"The book will be sold to the public," Harnardono said.
The first day of show will be closed by a leather puppet performance by noted puppeteer Timbul Hadiprayitno, after music, dance and folkart performances in the afternoon.
The second day will begin with a fashion show and end with a performance of a traditional ritual. (sur)
