Yogya to host ICCT meet

JAKARTA (JP): Yogyakarta will host next year's fourth International Conference on Culture and Tourism (ICCT), one of the activities set by the governments of Indonesia and Switzerland.

Director General of Tourism Andi Mappi Sammeng announced yesterday that the two countries have signed an agreement based on joint cooperation in the fields of culture and international tourism focusing on establishing a forum of discussions and activities.

He said the first conference was held in Lausanne, which will also host the third conference on Oct. 16-19.

"A number of Indonesian experts will speak at the third conference, including former Foreign Minister Mochtar Kusumaatmadja, former Minister of Social Affairs Haryati Soebadio, Rector of the University of Gadjah Mada Soekanto Reksohadiprodjo and Rector of the University of Indonesia M.K. Tadjuddin," he said.

He also said that some 40 Indonesians led by Minister of Tourism, Post and Telecommunications Joop Ave will attend the Lausanne conference, focusing on "The role of tourism in preserving nature and cultural heritage". (icn)
