Yogya councillors visit Jakarta

JAKARTA (JP): A 12-member delegation of the Yogyakarta legislative council conducted a comparative study on how to tackle social issues on housemaids, the collection of alms, prostitution and pornographic VCDs in the city.

"We want to learn about how housemaid businesses are controlled as numerous occurrences of such problems are now surfacing in Yogyakarta," Mohammad Oemar, who led the delegation, said after meeting Edy Suchro Abdul Djalal, chairman of City Council Commission D for economic affairs, on Monday.

Edy said that so far, the city administration has yet to draft special regulations to fight prostitution and pornographic VCDs. In the absence of specific regulations, the 1998 ruling on public order remains effective, Edy added. (rms)
