YLKI responds

On behalf of the Indonesian Consumers Foundation (YLKI) I would like to thank Mr. Indaryanto for his letter in The Jakarta Post of Oct. 27 regarding the sale of SEA Games stickers.

We understand what he means by the difficulty in reality to refuse the imposition of paying for SEA Games stickers when paying power and telephone bills.

I trust Mr. Indaryanto is aware that PLN's managing director has issued a circular letter No. 6733/0053/DIRUT/1997/M, saying that the purchase of SEA Games stickers is voluntary and those who object to buying them can refuse the offer.

For other agencies, like Telkom, one can refuse to pay for stickers, but this is limited to customers who pay direct at counters. Customers paying from their bank account or by bank transfer are still charged the price of stickers.
