YJI will hold fund raiser

An official of the Indonesian Heart Foundation (YJI) said that, in a bid to collect donations from the public, it will sell cards which will enable the holders to get discounts in hospitals, department stores, drug stores and hotels.

Masino, the executive director of YJI, said over the weekend that the discount cards will be sold at Rp 15,000 (around US$7) around Jakarta and at Rp 10,000 in the other areas.

The area around Jakarta includes Jakarta, Bogor, Tangerang and Bekasi.

Masino explained that the foundation will sign agreements with Kimia Farma pharmaceutical company, Mitra Keluarga hospital, Buoraq airlines, Santika hotel chains and a number of department stores on Oct. 30 to realize the plan.

He said the card holders, aside from helping finance the social institution, will get purchase discounts at the appointed stores or hotels.

Masino said that the foundation, on the contrary, will step up its anti-smoking campaign following the reported increase in the number of young smokers throughout the country, adding that heart disease is still the number one cause of death here.

The well-known foundation is an ardent supporter of the implementation of non-smoking regulation in public spaces, which includes public transports, public buildings and department stores.

In a related development, Antara quoted Sudarto, another executive of YJI, as saying that the foundation will conduct a national jamboree in Cibubur, East Jakarta, on Sep. 3-7.

He said that 1,500 participants are expected to attend the jamboree, which will be officially opened by Mrs. Try Sutrisno, the wife of Vice President Try Sutrisno. (09)
