Y2K problem

There appears to be ongoing confusion between the possible Y2K problem and the start of the new millennium. These two are not related.

The Y2K problem starts with the commencement of the year 2000 and the possible double zero double. The millennium starts with the beginning of the year 2001. Unless, of course, we are now counting O to 9 as against 1 to 10.

On each day's front page of The Jakarta Post, you announce the number of days to the millennium. Regretfully you are a year too early.

Yours and other readers' comments would be appreciated.

Note: When the millennium actually falls remains the subject of debate, with proponents for 2000 and, as in your case, 2001.
