WW II bomb kills one

MAUMERE, East Nusa Tenggara: A bomb thought to date back to World War II has exploded in remote Mole hamlet on Pemana island, killing a woman and injuring two others, an official said on Saturday.

Village chief Baharudin said the three women were in a kitchen preparing meals for a wedding reception on Wednesday when the bomb suddenly detonated. Wasahori, 40, died in the incident, while Budiati, 28, and Bauli, 49, were injured. The three were rushed to TC Hillers Hospital.

Baharudin said the source of the blast was located under the kitchen's stove. A hole five meters in diameter and one meter deep resulted from the explosion.

An officer at Sikka Police station, Sec. Insp. Pelipus Boli, said on Saturday the case was being investigated. (yac/lup)
