Wrong statement

I would like to correct certain statements attributed to myself in Tjipta Lesmana's article Tudjman faces formidable challenges ahead.

Having held several discussions with my good friend Tjipta Lesmana in 1991 and 1992, I never told him that Tudjman "used to work as a speechwriter for Tito". Tudjman was a general staff member of the former Yugoslav Army and head of the Army's Personal Administration in the late fifties and early sixties before his return to Zagreb.

The referendum on Croatian independence was held in 1991, not in 1995.

I have never ignored the result of that referendum, and after the Croatian declaration of independence and international recognition, I resigned as Yugoslav ambassador. The reason I did not join the Croatian government and stay in Indonesia is another story which is not connected with the above article.
