Writing contest for teachers

JAKARTA: The city Cultural Affairs and Museum Agency is organizing a writing contest of Betawi folktales for teachers here with a total of Rp 29 million in prizes.

The writings should be received by the organizing committee no later than Oct.10, according to Kardin Dedi Sukardi, one of the organizers.

Teachers who are interested in the contest should write a 10 to 15 page story in double spacing and should be neatly bound, the city official website beritajakarta.com reported.

The contest is open for teachers of formal schools, from kindergartens to high schools, and require a letter of recommendation from the school principal.

Kardin said the contest is aimed at popularizing the Betawi culture, particularly the folktales, and encouraging teachers to seek and dig out the artistic values in the traditional culture.--JP
