World-class painting exhibition due here
Jakarta will soon host a spectacular painting exhibition,
displaying more than 500 masterpieces by renowned local and
international artists.
The exhibition called "The Jakarta International Fine Arts"
will include the original works by Paul Cezanne, Pablo Picasso,
Henri Matisse, Vincent Van Gogh, Francisco de Goya and Renoir.
Local paintings include works by Raden Saleh, Basuki Abdullah,
Affandi, Mochtar Apin and Lee Man-Fong.
Organized jointly by the newly established Yayasan Seni Rupa
Indonesia and the London-based Bradbury International Services
Pte. Ltd, the exhibition will take place at the Sangri-la
Hotel from Oct. 18 through 23.
Susrinah Sanyoto Sastrowardoyo, the organizing committee's
chairperson, told reporters yesterday that 12 well-known art
galleries from the United States, Europe and Asia will also take
part at the exhibition where they will be displaying their
outstanding art collections.
The organizing committee will also organize a fine art contest
in which artists will compete for the Philip Morris Award.
Indonesian artists are invited to join the competition, she said.
She explained that the Foundation, Yayasan Seni Rupa
Indonesia, was established on June 8 of this year. The foundation
is aimed at encouraging cultural activities, and fine arts in
particular, across the country. (raw)
