Workshop on women's rights

JAKARTA: The Office of State Minister for Women's Empowerment in collaboration with the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) plans to organize a workshop to raise awareness about the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and women's human rights.

The workshop will take place on July 26-27 at Le Meridien Hotel, in Jakarta.

"This workshop serves as a kick-start to strengthen commitment and action towards the implementation of CEDAW and to create a network for policy dialogue and partnerships among the stakeholders for CEDAW implementation," UNIFEM said in a statement on Monday.

CEDAW is seen as a powerful legal instrument with the potential to improve women's conditions.

Indonesia ratified CEDAW in 1984, but still needs to make significant advances to realize women's human rights in line with the terms of the Convention, UNIFEM said. --JP
