Working efficiency
From Jayakarta
The government will soon test the new five-day work week. Whether the new system will produce better results is still a question.
I am only concerned about the impact of the long weekend. Up to now the government has spoken only of the good side of the policy, i.e. for efficiency's sake. This is true in terms of the usage of energy, telephones, time etc. But, what about productivity? This is another effect that has to be taken into account.
Civil servants have to moonlight somewhere to augment their income. And there are some institutions that need to keep working on Saturdays such as hospitals, fire brigades and telephone offices. So the regulation is not workable for all civil servants.
