Workers sick due to food poisoning

SEMARANG: Around 140 workers of the PT Cerah Garmen textile company in Ungaran south of here were rushed to a local hospital for food poisoning after eating contaminated food on Saturday.

The chief of the Ungaran state hospital, Nunung, said most of the patients complained about severe headaches and diarrhea soon after they consumed their lunches, which consisted of rice, vegetables and fish.

One of the workers, Siti Maesaroh, 23, said she saw something like a worm in her food. She added that the food smelled quite bad.

"Some of us could not avoid eating the lunch because we were so hungry," she said.

Police are now investigating the case. (har)
