Worker murdered in West Jakarta

JAKARTA (JP): A worker was stabbed to death by his colleague at a plastics factory in Cengkareng, West Jakarta, yesterday after a heated quarrel over their production work.

Hasbi, 18, allegedly murdered Muhammad Ali, alias Wanto, 22. Hasbi is still at large.

After the murder, Hasbi was captured by factory security guards and locked in the guard's post. He escaped the next morning, factory workers said.

Police believe the alleged killer will try to return to his hometown in Palembang, South Sumatra.

The victim's father, Syaifulah, told reporters at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital morgue that he expected compensation from his son's company.

He said he would spend Rp 1 million (US$429) transporting his son's body home to Lampung in southern Sumatra, and paying his post mortem. (jun)
