Worker dies in drum explosion

JAKARTA: A thirty-year-old construction worker died after an empty drum of frying oil, which he was welding, exploded in his face on Thursday.

The body of Sandi, a resident of Ciracas, East Jakarta, who at the time was working on a construction project at the Siti Chadijah maternity hospital, South Jakarta, was taken to the morgue of the Fatmawati Public Hospital, South Jakarta.

According to Sandi's work mates, the incident took place at around 4 p.m. on Thursday. The workers, who at the time had just finished working, were surprised by a loud explosion, and when they went to investigate, they found Sandy's body all covered with blood.

Sandy, who was known to be a kindly and diligent person, is survived by a wife and child. --Antara
