Work force problem
From Pelita
I feel concerned about the recent laborers' demonstration in Medan, which has drawn the attention of many parties. We clearly remember that the world of labor was tarnished by the incident of Marsinah.
As a worker myself, I have some suggestions that, if implemented, could prevent similar incidents from reoccurring.
It is high time that the Ministry of Manpower began exercising stricter control over the field, considering that there are still many companies that have not yet implemented the regulations on labor.
The All-Indonesia Workers Union (SPSI), the only workers' organization recognized by the government, should continue to make improvements within the organization and provide training for its affiliated sectoral trade unions, because they confront the companies and the workers directly.
All differences and disputes can be solved through dialogs and amicable channels without resorting to violence.
