Women's drug rehab center opens

JAKARTA (JP): A new rehabilitation center for female drug addicts located on Jl. Mochtar Raya, Joglo subdistrict, West Jakarta, has opened its doors for business.

The opening of the center, named Puri Teratai Elok and run by the Teratai Social Welfare Foundation, was officiated by the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare's director general of medical services, Ahmad Djojosugito.

The foundation's chairwoman, former minister of social affairs Inten Soeweno, said the center could accommodate 40 drug addicts and would apply the "community therapy" method.

But she refused to explain why the center only housed female drug addicts.

The center apparently targets addicts from well-to-do families as it charges a Rp 1.5 million (US$150) entrance fee per patient and a monthly fee of Rp 3.5 million. (01)
