Women ask for most divorces
PALU, Central Sulawesi: Almost 70 percent of the 436 divorces handled by the district religious court here last year were filed by women, an official revealed over the weekend.
Head of the religious court, Ahmad Dahlan M.S., said most of the women opted for divorce after learning their husbands had extramarital affairs.
The court found only a few divorces were caused by economic problems.
"We usually offer them a peaceful settlement before legal proceedings begin in a bid to prevent divorces, but to no avail," Ahmad said, reported Antara. (amd)
