Woman's body found in river

JAKARTA: The badly decomposed body of a woman was found floating on the Jilangkeng river under the Pasar Pagi flyover, West Jakarta on Thursday morning.

The body was found at 7 a.m. by Nasir, 55, a local resident who happened to see a human arm amid a pile of garbage. Nasir then reported the find to the local police, First Adj. Insp. Darsum of the Tambora police subprecinct said.

The officer said that he found no identification card or wallet on the woman, who was believed to have been dead for one week.

The woman, aged around 50, had straight dark hair, was 155 cm tall, and was wearing dark blue jeans with a gray long-sleeve shirt.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the woman might have drowned, and her body drifted from another location, as no local residents in the vicinity claimed to know her. --JP
