Woman, two kids burned to death

BOGOR (JP): A mother and her two children suffered fatal burns on Wednesday morning in a suspected suicide at the home of the woman's parents in Sipak village, Jasinga district.

Sipak village head Asip Fudin said Otih, 23, had set herself and her children, Heri, 3, and Fahmi, eight months, alight.

"The woman was poor. She was divorced from her husband, Herman," Asip told reporters on Wednesday.

At the time of the incident at 7 a.m., Otih's father Oji was working in the fields, and mother, Inot, had been washing clothes in a nearby river, Asip said.

"When Sipak residents saw the large fire, they ran toward the house and collectively put out the fire. Thinking the house was empty, they were shocked to find corpses of the mother and the kids. The victims were roasted alive," he said.

The corpses were buried on Wednesday.

"I strongly suspect that this was suicide, because of economic conditions. Otih could not take the burden anymore," Asip said

Otih's parents could only wail upon finding the corpses of their daughter and grandchildren.

The case is being investigated by Jasinga Police. (21/ylt)
