Woman shot during robbery attempt

JAKARTA (JP): The police shot a woman after she snatched a gold necklace from a passenger of a mikrolet public minivan at the Senen bus terminal on Monday.

The woman, identified as 25-year-old Maurin Napitupulu, was shot in her left hand and a bullet pierced her arm, according to the Senen Police.

She was rushed to the police hospital in Kramat Jati, East Jakarta, Second Lt. Yan Kris Allo said.

The police confiscated a gold necklace worth Rp 500,000 (US$60) as evidence.

"Maurin saw a passenger, 46-year-old Ong Renny, with the gold necklace in the mikrolet bound for Kampung Melayu," Allo said.

Maurin snatched the necklace through the window but as she fled the scene she was spotted by Sgt. Maj. Arjul Harahap, an on- duty police officer in the area, he said.

"Arjul was forced to point the gun at her after she ignored two warning shots," Allo said. (06)
