Woman mobbed for picking pocket

JAKARTA: A 23-year-old woman, Rustini, was set on by an angry crowed after being caught red-handed picking the pocket of a trader at the Cipinang rice center in East Jakarta, police reported on Wednesday.

The incident took place at 11 a.m. when Parsiyem, 74, a bottled drink vendor at the market, was busy serving her customers.

Rustini mingled with the throng of customers surrounding the vendor, and attempted to steal Parsiyem's purse from her pocket.

Rustini, however, was spotted by one of the customers, who then cried out a warning after which Rustini was mobbed by the crowd.

Rustini only suffered minor injuries and was later taken to the Pulo Gadung police subprecinct for questioning. -- JP
