Woman gets 4 years for drugs

TANGERANG: A woman was sentenced to four years jail and fined Rp 100,000 (US$10) for possessing 27 grams of shabu-shabu (crystal methamphetamines) and two ecstasy pills.

The sentence handed down by Judge Suhartoyo of the Tangerang District Court was one year less than what prosecutor Laswan had asked for.

Erni bin Muchtadi, 37, a resident of Jl. Mangga Besar VIII, Central Jakarta, was arrested as she dealt drugs from her car on Jl. Kelapa Puan 18, Gading Serpong housing complex in Curug district of Tangerang on April 16 this year.

The defendant had earlier told the court that the police confiscated her money totaling Rp 10,551,000 and four cellular phones as evidence.

But police insisted they had only confiscated Rp 551,000 and one cell phone.

The court had refused the defense's request for arresting officer First. Adj. Brig Abu Bakar to take the stand, saying that the court would only hear the major facts relating to the case.--JP
