Woman falls to her death

JAKARTA (JP): A female engineer died after falling down an
elevator shaft from the 26th floor of the Menara Tujuh Gading
apartment building in North Jakarta yesterday morning, police
said.

"Based on our preliminary investigation, Lisa Widowati, 29,
tripped and fell while checking the work progress at the
apartment tower," Capt. Asep Suhendar, head of Kelapa Gading
Police Subprecinct, told The Jakarta Post.

Lisa, he said, was standing near an elevator, which had yet to
be completely installed, when she suddenly tripped and fell into
the shaft.

"She died instantly and was found with severe head injuries
and bruises all over her body," Asep said.

Police received the report at about 9 a.m. and have questioned
four witnesses so far, including project workers and passers-by
who saw her fall to the ground.

"Based on witness testimonies, it looks like her death was a
pure accident," he added.

The case is being handled by the Kelapa Gading Police. (edt)
