Woman arrested for visa stamp forgery
JAKARTA: Investigators from the immigration office declared a woman a suspect on Monday in a visa stamp forgery scam, a crime that carries a maximum of six years in jail.
Immigration office head Iman Santoso told reporters that Hotma Juliana Panjaitan had been caught red-handed in possession of fake visa stamps from Indonesia, Malaysia, Hongkong and Singapore.
Iman said that not only did Juliana plan to sell the stamps, she also intended to use them herself to impress the United States immigration authorities as she wanted a visa for that country. She had two clients who were also seeking U.S. visas.
Juliana works for a travel agency and was once arrested for document forgery. Speculating that Juliana is a part of a syndicate, Iman denied that any of his subordinates were involved in the case. -- JP
