Wiyono, Catherin win Peugeot meet

JAKARTA (JP): Wiyono and Catherin M. of Indonesia won the overall best net in the men's and women's events of the Peugeot golf tournament at Pantai Indah Kapuk course, North Jakarta, yesterday.

Wiyono scored a handicap 12 and over best net 62 while Catherin scored a handicap 12 and over best net 69.

Tanfaai and Trianto won the second and third placings respectively in the men's events with handicaps of 18 and best nets of 64 and 65 respectively.

Hawani Tobing and Diana won the second and third placings respectively in the women's events with handicaps seven and eight, and best nets of 70.

Wiyono and Catherin are among the 250 participants in the Peugeot golf tournament. They will represent Indonesia in the Peugeot Challenge World Tour '97 in France on June 23 and the French Open at St Nom-La-Brereche on June 24.

Peugeot, represented in Indonesia by Multifrance, a subsidiary of car assembler Astra International, sponsors two major professional golf tournaments - the Peugeot French Open and the Peugeot Spanish Open. The Spanish Open in Madrid was won by Mark James of England after a sudden death playoff against Greg Norman of Australia.

Prijono, a representative of Peugeot was surprised by the enthusiasm of the participants from clubs included in the Indonesian Golf Association.

"The number of participants in the Peugeot golf tournament was beyond our expectation. This is the first time such a tournament sponsored by Peugeot has been held in Indonesia," Prijono said.

The organizer donated Rp 50,000 per person to the Society for the Care of Disabled Children and the Ni'matul Jawahir pesantren at Citayam, Depok. The money came from player's registration fees. (rsl)
