Witness explains on murder case

JAKARTA (JP): Rushdy Hasan Belbasy, an associate of a murdered Yemeni man, denied yesterday that he was being sought by the police in connection with the slaying.

"I was summoned to the city police headquarters in my capacity only as a witness in the case," Rushdy said in a statement faxed to The Jakarta Post.

"I am not running away and I have left my address with the police."

The body of the Yemeni, identified as Hasan Muhammad Yeslam, 26, was discovered at Hotel Pitagiri in Palmerah, West Jakarta, Monday morning.

The victim was found with a neck wound at about 6 a.m. in a room by a hotel security guard.

City police spokesman Lt. Col. E. Aritonang said yesterday the case was still under investigation.

"Yes, it is all being examined thoroughly. We do not have any suspects yet but wait for the examination results for more information," he said. (edt)
