Withdrawal of Tadjus deplored

JAKARTA (JP): A city councilor said yesterday that the withdrawal of Golkar city-chapter chairman Tadjus Sobirin from the list of nominated City Council candidates was his right.

H.M. Zakiruddin Djamin of Golkar said that Tadjus was expected to become a city councilor due to his success in raising the number of Golkar votes in the city in the May 29 general election.

"I regretted his decision, but it's his right," Zakiruddin said.

He urged Minister of Home Affairs Moch. Yogie S.M. and the President to give a governor-level position to Tadjus for his accomplishments.

"As a Golkar cadre, this is my suggestion, but the decision is up to them (the minister and the President)," Zakiruddin said.

The Jayakarta daily reported Wednesday that Tadjus had officially withdrawn from the City Council nomination list. The withdrawal was sent to the City Election Committee Tuesday.

The daily reported that Governor Surjadi Soedirdja declined to comment on Tadjus' withdrawal after meeting Golkar executives, including Tadjus, on Tuesday.

In addition to his nomination to become councilor, Tadjus is also one of Golkar's 10 proposed candidates for the next Jakarta governor. (ste)
