Wiranto to be on cartoon series

JAKARTA: Former military chief Gen. Wiranto, who some have accused of being involved in a variety of human rights abuse cases, will be taking on a new role as the voice of a cartoon character in a nationally-produced cartoon series.

According to Boy Rival, director of the PT Bening production company, Wiranto would dub the voice of an elephant character in the Kancil folk tale.

Also among the cast will be W.S. Rendra, Amoroso Katamsi and Yenni Rachman. The series will also present forgotten folk songs with a backdrop of traditional gamelan music.

The Kancil series, currently has 16 episodes completed and will begin airing in June on LaTivi television station.

In 2001, Wiranto, also known for his singing ability, launched a compilation album of classic Indonesian love songs. -- Antara
