Wiranto reelected GABSI chief
JAKARTA (JP): Commander of the Armed Forces Gen. Wiranto was
elected for a third term as chairman of the Indonesian Contract
Bridge Association (GABSI) at its national congress in Mataram,
West Nusa Tenggara, last week.
Wiranto, who is also minister of defense, will chair the
association from 1998 to 2002 and will be assisted by executive
director Yoost Mengko, secretary HA Imran, treasurer Markus
Parmadi, player development deputy Roy E. Tirtadji and the
association's patron, Wismoyo Arismunandar, who is also the
chairman of the National Sports Council.
National player Henky Lasut told Antara that Wiranto had
developed bridge and encouraged its players to reach
international heights.
"My partner Eddy Manoppo and I won the silver at the 1996
Bridge Olympics in Greece during his chairmanship," he said.
