Winada elected Bali PWI chairman
DENPASAR, Bali: Djesna Winada, chief editor of Prima weekly and Putu Fajar Arcana, a reporter from Kompas daily were elected on Saturday as chairman and secretary, respectively, of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI)'s Bali chapter.
But the election process was somewhat controversial as a candidate needed the support of 35 members to be nominated.
Reporter Anang Salim, of Suara Merdeka, initially protested the nomination requirement saying that it favored journalists from large media organizations.
He suggested that a candidate only require the support of 10 members.
But Salim's proposal was rejected in the conference.
Winada, who's publication is part of the Bali Post media group, finally became the sole candidate for the top post as others failed to receive the minimum nomination quota of 35 supporters.(zen/jun)
