WIN to launch 3G network
JAKARTA: PT Wireless Indonesia (WIN), mobile data telecommunications network and service provider company will launch its new mobile data network in first quarter 2003.
The network, using CDMA (Code Digital Multimedia Access) 2000 1xEV-DO is a third generation (3G) network which enables delivery of wireless internet, video streaming, mobile VPN (virtual private network) and other next generation wireless data services, the company said in a statement.
"CDMA2000 1xEV-DO is the latest CDMA 3G technology available and will position WIN to respond to the growing number of Indonesia individuals and business looking for the state-of-the art, high bandwidth mobile communications - from Web browsing and video messaging to mobile desktop capabilities and high-speed wireless access to corporate intranets," Teddy A. Purwadi, WIN's president director said.
The technology can provide wireless data transmission with peak rates up to 2.4 megabits per second.
For the technology, WIN has chosen Canadian network company Nortel Networks Technology.--JP
