Wimar Witoelar's talk show

I began to notice Wimar Witoelar when I first read one of his articles in Kompas quite some time ago. The article was very interesting. After that, I found more of his writings not only in Kompas but also in The Jakarta Post. His sociopolitical commentaries have been witty, open, and candid. I like his style, which is relaxed but sharp.

On a local television's talk show, Selayang Pandang, that he hosts, a similar atmosphere seems to prevail. The program is quite entertaining. However, some of the shows have sounded a bit too chatty, as if lacking focused topics. I'm not sure whether it is due to limited time, or because of guests who have been unable to balance him. However, a special program with special guests speaking on economic issues some time ago was fascinating. It sounded like a normal chat, but was full of analysis. Hopefully, more of the same will be presented in the future.

There are a number of talk shows nowadays on local television stations. Some are serious, full of discussions, and many are just going around the bush with not much content. Wimar's talk show is unique in many respects -- relaxed, analytical and witty.
