Willem replaces Stevi in SEA Games

JAKARTA (JP): The Indonesian Amateur Boxing Association (Pertina) named Willem Papilaya to replace Stevi Binalay in the light welterweight (63.5kg) division at the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Kuala Lumpur in September.

Pertina official in charge of technical affairs, Ferry Moniaga, said on Thursday that Stevi must be out of the ring for three months after being knocked out in the Arafura Games in Australia in May and the ongoing King's Cup boxing championships in Bangkok.

"According to the rule, he should rest for three months because he has been knocked out twice," Ferry told Antara.

He said that Bara Gommies, who fought in the welterweight (67kg) division could still perform in the SEA Games, despite being KO'd in the King's Cup. Bara would only have one month of rest.

"Pertina has prepared Jaya Lagoya of Southeast Sulawesi as a substitute for Bara. Jaya is joining our long-term training center. But we doubt that he will perform in the SEA Games as he has not enough experiences in international events" Ferry said. (ivy)
