Willem bows out of Golden Gloves

SEMARANG (JP): National light welterweight boxer Willem Papilaya of Jakarta, who is being groomed for the Kuala Lumpur Southeast Asian Games in September, bowed out of the Golden Gloves Boxing Championships semifinals on Wednesday to teammate Stevie Binalau 7-6.

Stevie will face Cosmos Arwom of Irian Jaya, who defeated M. Baratan of Maluku 6-5 in the other semi.

Dickton Ton of East Nusa Tenggara crushed Fuad Rizafudin of Central Java 13-5 to set up a battle against Alfredo Rumbiak of Banten, who had an RSC (Referee Stopping Contest) victory over John Priadi of Central Kalimantan in the flyweight division.

Jakartan Juan Saparipan eliminated Wardoyo of Central Java 8-2 to meet Antonius of South Kalimantan, who beat Gonsales of West Sumatra 12-7.

The championships are scheduled to conclude on Saturday. (har)
