Why offensive?
Graeme St. John's letter (June 14, 1995) is a classic example of lack of common sense and crass ignorance. In my letter (June 7, 1995), I dealt with a serious and irrefutable problem: "Psychological colonialism"; But that gentleman, having been caught red-handed, and in lack of topics, fell into hysteria. Instead of trying to deny what I have written, (a despairing undertaking indeed) he raved and offended my country. A comical behavior!
From his conjurer's top-hat, St. John drew out, one by one, Greeks, Australians, pasta, TV, Latin, mafia, pizza and so on. The only positive things he granted to the "made in Italy" are the shoes loved by his wife.
I'll not put myself on the same level as St. John, dealing with deeds and misdeeds of his country. He forgot to speak about art, culture, science and so on. He preferred to go back 2000 years ago, when Rome was an Empire and Britons were still playing with bludgeons in the caves.
Speaking about the actual Italian situation, St. John is not too far from the truth but why he doesn't have a look at his own country's situation?
