Why does Aceh want to separate?

I am a Canadian Muslim who has come to know about two very sad
facts regarding Indonesia, which is home to the largest
population of our Muslim brothers and sisters in the world.
- There is rampant corruption at every level of the government.
Could this be possibly true? If it is true, then I feel very
dejected. If we Muslims really know Allah, then corruption and
bribery should be the last thing people would want to indulge in.
- The Indonesian government needs to seriously ask itself why
Aceh wants to separate. Why would a part of you want to separate?
Both the central government and the Free Aceh Movement (GAM)
should know that nothing in this world belongs to us. As Muslims,
we should know that this whole earth belongs to Allah.

Our children, our properties, our very lives do not belong to
us -- they belong to Allah. The GAM should strive to bond with
their brethren in the rest of Indonesia. The Indonesian
government should deal with utmost justice and compassion with
the Acehnese. Our strength lies in our unity.
