Where to party in Jakarta on New Year's Eve

Jakartans are gearing up to welcome 2004. Listed below are some
venues that city residents could visit to celebrate the New Year:

* Pantai Karnaval, Taman Impian Jaya Ancol, North Jakarta:

Gemilang 2004 live broadcast by private television SCTV.
A collaboration between dangdut artists -- Kristina, Inul
Daratista, Vetty Vera and Alam -- and local rock groups Padi and
Slank. The event will start at 9:30 p.m.

A wayang kulit (shadow puppet) show by puppeteer Enthus
Susmono will also take place on another stage at the venue.

* Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, East Jakarta:

"King of dangdut" Rhoma Irama will perform with Iyeth Bustami
and Didi Kempot. The show will be aired live on Indosiar, along
with a performance by rock group Dewa at Kafe Tenda Semanggi.

Three shadow puppet shows -- with puppeteers Manteb
Soedharsono, Gunawan Wibisono and Mujoko -- will take place in
the Central Java house, Heirloom Museum and East Java house
respectively. A wooden puppet show by Tjetjep Supriyadi will be
held in the West Java house.

* Taman Ismail Marzuki, Jl. Cikini Raya, Central Jakarta:

Berbagi Ruang Keriangan (Sharing a Room of Joy) is being
staged by the Jakarta Arts Council. At a carnival-like set, every
visitors will wear a mask distributed at the entrance. No
trumpets will be allowed. A variety of arts performances on
different stages will highlight the event from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m.

* Kafe Tenda Semanggi, Sudirman Business District Center, South
Jakarta:

A performance by one of Indonesia's famous rock groups, Dewa,
and folk song singer Doel Sumbang.

* The ballroom of Hotel Danau Sunter, Sunter, North Jakarta:

Combination performances of Indo-Indian music, dance and
comedy will highlight the special event held by the "Djakarta
boutique event organizers".

* Taman Ria Senayan amusement park, Jl. Jend. Gatot Subroto,
Central Jakarta:

All-night music performance presents local music groups,
including Naif.
